STEM STEAM Students Explore Art

HOW TO APPLY TO SAISD SCHOOLS

CAST Med is the third high school in San Antonio ISD’s CAST Schools Network.  The school was created to help supply San Antonio with much-needed doctors and medical researchers.  CAST Med students follow one of three pathways: medical professionals, biomedical research, or public health professionals. CAST Med emphasizes medicine and biomedical research, but it’s not all about science and math.

CAST Med art teacher, Linda Marsh, says no matter what type of job a person has, art can be a part of it.   She said, “You want art in your life because it helps you relax and meditate.  Art gets you through things, hard times. It is a great way to release anger or sadness.”

The art program’s portrait project that lines the school’s hallways helped relieve stress for many hard-working CAST Med students.

Sophomore Alyssa Garza said, “We have a bunch of work, and being able to do art is a really good distraction from all that stress we have put on us. Art really helps me.”

Aiden Elizondo, another sophomore at CAST Med, said, “Projects like this help open your eyes and see that the world isn’t just black and white; it’s a whole color spectrum. I feel like CAST Med gives us opportunities to work with a variety of subjects before we go into the work field.”
